I've always longed for the escape that comes with a good book. Being transported into another world, whether real or fantastic, and strong female leads have drawn me in since I was a teenager. 

​

As I approached the big 4-0, I realized that I wanted to do more than just read this work - I wanted to create it, too. I promptly enrolled in the Book Incubator, which gave me the tools I needed to become a writer.

I am seeking representation for my novel, The Painting.

​

Getting called out as an alcoholic, served with divorce papers, and burying her father on the same day—how much worse can it get? For thirty-nine-year-old Madeline, the answer is “a lot”. When she accidentally shatters a picture frame in her late father’s home, it reveals a hidden painting of a white farmhouse that instantly transports her to a different country with no phone, no passport, and no way of fixing her marriage or her life.

Nik is a successful psychologist in Lincoln, Nebraska, who’s in danger of having a breakdown of his own if he can’t figure out how to afford keeping his mother in the senior living facility where she is happiest. He could always sell the farmhouse where he and his brother grew up, but that would mean breaking the last promise she might remember him making. Planning to compromise by renting it, he makes a trip out for maintenance—only to discover a confused Canadian woman sitting on the couch.

At first Nik believes Madeline is a troubled woman trying to escape a bad past, but when Madeline finds a painting hidden in Nik’s mother’s basement that depicts her father’s house to a tee, it’s clear there is a mysterious and magical connection between their families. The deeper they dig, the more evident it is that the paintings are valuable to a shadowy underground network unafraid to kill those, like Madeline’s father, who get in their way. If Madeline and Nik can’t uncover why, they’ll soon be buried along with their family secrets.
